At Immanuel we believe that church is more than a gathering. It’s people living life together and helping one another, here in Abbotsford and throughout our world. Each week, dozens of people meet in small communities to learn about God, to know Him better, to grow in faith, and to go and serve others. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church. They are the way we grow smaller and the only way to not get lost in the crowd.

We believe that people grow better in circles than they do in rows. Community groups are a helpful way to grow deeper in your faith with those you enjoy being around. It is within these small communities that men and women can express their doubts, ask their questions, build personal relationships and practice applying the gospel to their lives.

Composed of four to twelve people, groups meet in homes throughout the city. All groups are led by trained leaders who attend Immanuel and who receive continued oversight and support from pastoral staff. Groups generally meet two to four times per month. Many groups also participate in hangout times and service projects—ways of helping in the church and community.

Community groups provide a break from the pressures and anxieties of life and help us make new friends. These groups are places where we can be revitalized and strengthened as we seek to reflect the love of Jesus Christ to our world. God made us for community and we need others to help us apply the gospel to our lives. Our hope is that everyone who attends Immanuel will be connected in a Community Group.
